My name is Jacob and my wife’s name is Sydney. You will see us in a few pictures here and there….
Sydney and I met in 2006 while in school and got married in 2009. We have a cat named Stewie that Sydney found in late 2007. We also have a cat named Butters that came to us (me while I was working in the garage) in late 2012.
Between our work, Sydney’s school, and the cats, we seem to keep much busier than I think we should.
We looked at houses for over a year, attempting to figure out what we truly wanted and what we needed. We put offers down on a few and never got them and when the ‘First Time Homebuyers’ credit came about, I panicked and said we had to get a house. At the time, we had looked at building close to my work, and we knew we could get what we wanted (at the time), so we decided to move forward on that and build our first home.
It was a good home and we had good neighbors, but what we figured out was that we don’t really like people that much….I know right? We really wanted to be able to sit on our back porch and not have people staring at us from other yards, or even have people look into our backyard from their ridiculously close 2nd story windows. Sadly, this occurred around a year and a half after owning the home. The bad thing was that to not have to pay the government back their $8k, we had to stay in the home for three years. So we decided we would inactively look at homes/land/homes with land/etc and see if anything happened to come up.
I bothered my realtor about different properties over the next year and a half until I was searching on Zillow.com and came upon a unique home with a huge shop. This was exactly what I was looking for, a shop that was bigger than the home. Syd didn’t like the idea, but the shop was an important piece.
What I didn’t know, was that the large structure was the future house. On the first drive there, we got more and more excited.
The views were beautiful and we knew this was right up our ally.
After touring the property and the houses we told our realtor that we were very interested and that we would be thinking about it over the next few days. We convinced Syd’s mother and stepdad to come out and check out the place and give us their opinion. They agreed that it had quite a bit of potential. We were even more excited.
So we put an offer on the house, and after a bit of pong like counter offers we had the house.
We originally planned to live in the ‘apartment’ house while finishing the other house, but after being in the house for one weekend we were ready to tear it apart and redo it all…. My thoughts were that we would put all of our resources into getting into the big house as fast as possible, but it just hasn’t panned out. Neither Sydney or I want to live in filth (the carpet had to have been used before the previous owners put it down) and we know that with a little bit of money (or a lot depending on who you talk to……me) we can make the apartment better and worth living in over the next few years.
We hope B to have things moving on the new house sometime in September/October and our plans are for it to not take longer than 2 years. The budget will be coming from income, so things will happen as money comes in. The goal is to finish the big house and have both houses totally livable without extending or adding to our current mortgage.
So, please feel free to follow along as Sydney and I work our way towards our new house. You can laugh and cry with us as we hit theB lowsB and ride theB highsB and hopefully we will come out with an awesome house on our land looking something like one of the houses below….
Or…..maybe more likeB this….
Ok, obviously it isn’t going to look anything like those, and we really don’t want it to, but take a look at our future pad page and you can see what we areB trulyB aiming for.
